Poise :: IF and Greta the ink sketch

This week's IF prompt was Poise. Greta here is most poised in her petite toe pointing way. I am still feeling rather under the weather (hence the umbrella!) and so am going to rest my way through today. No need for a relapse!
Hoping to get some behind the scenes shots of the lovely work pouring into artstream for the Jen 11 show for you! have a wonderful weekend and think spring! Melt damn snow, melt!

Wednesday is sparkly green

sparkly green, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

Today was absolutely too beautiful not to have a little 'playin hookey' time... so after an appointment this afternoon, I happened by my friend artist Kris Lanzer's home in Dover. Surprise! Ms. McKeen was also there... and we were able to check out some of the finer points of the garden and "ManLand". Click through the photo to see full size views of Kris's husband's new Manland studio. It's actual full size shipping containers welded together to make a studio for his metal welding projects. It is wonderful and red and rusty. Go on, take a peek. It's incredible!

Sculptural Wooden Boxes made in NH

Hello Monday - hope everyone is enjoying the day ... me? Back to bed with some meds now as the doctor said, bronchitis and I am listening. Hopefully a couple of days in will do the trick and I will be back to a little more venturing out. Until then, I want to share some of the new pieces we have from a fine woodworking craftsperson. He creates wooden jewlery/storage boxes from a mix of woods and each one is a little different and unique. Kevin Turgeon hails from NH, and just loves to make each one different. We have three which I hope to get up into the shop soon. This "Arch" one is my favorite so far...

Friday Spring Blues

Friday and Spring should be a double wonderful whammy, but here I am flat on my back in bed for the third day in a row with the horrible flu. Either way, I do have the windows flung open and breathing *as much as i can* the sweet spring air in. I hope those of you here in New England are all taking advantage of this lovely weather and running about in it! New England in springtime can be so wonderful!
More next week on our fabulous upcoming Jenn 11 Show and our Incredible Print Show. Too much artsy goodness to bear!

Brownie remains under glass

remains under glass, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

I have been working extra hard these past two weeks and have taken a little break from the world with daughter Grace home from college and her friends dropping by for dinner, movies, later nights than what I am used to... so here is a shot of the remains of the past days. Under glass, with melting snow behind in the window. Hooray for spring!

It's so funny - I love faces, and these little ceramic pieces are my favorites in the kitchen right now. The spaghetti sauce jar was added as it came out of the dishwasher with Paul's face just left on the label. I couldn't bear to recycle him. It was almost spooky when I opened the dishwasher!

Clay Sculptures :: student style

Bella's Garden Mountain
It never ceases to amaze me what my students can do. In January our gallery had six new sculptures by Megan Bogonovich on display.

Kaitlyn's Peace Mountain
My students love her work (as do millions of others...) and have been captivated by them each time they come into class.

Jake's "impossible par 3 Mountain"
So, I had a hair brained idea sometime that month that perhaps we could try smaller versions of Megan's complex clay sculptures. Knowing full well that nothing in clay or sculpture can always be 100% successful first time out of the box.

Willow's pigpile Mountain
This week after much working, four of the students ages 10 - 15 completed their "mountains" as we grew to call them. They measure about 14 inches tall each. I will let the photos do the talking. They are really something!
Happy Friday all!

Jenn 11 :: Sneak peek of next exhibition

A huge thanks to Grace for the mention at design sponge today about our April exhibition which I think is very very cool and is entitled "Jenn 11" What's it all about ? 11 Jennifers making art. Check out our website for a mini slide show here and read all about it at design sponge here and even MORE at the website Jenn 11. We are so proud to bring this to artstream, right here in Rochester, NH. We are very excited to see the beautiful book Jenn 11 which Janine Vangool from Uppercase Gallery has created too, just for this exhibit.

The gallery at Frisbie

The gallery at Frisbie, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

Hello Monday! Well, the lovely spring we were experiencing yesterday has been ripped from our minds with some inches of snow today. Ugh. Somewhere there is a crocus, a bud, a snowdrop. Wait, scratch that, I don't even want to say the word snow in a flower's name.
Either way, it's New England and that is just how it is - right?
Today I thought I would link up with my Flickr files to show you a few photos of the gallery space outside of artstream, which we are managing. It's at our local hospital - Frisbie Memorial and over the past 9 months we have enjoyed curating exhibitions for this place of quiet and reflection in their new wing. It's beautiful and we are so proud to be part of a hospital which supports the arts. Their permanent collection holds over 50 original works from artists - many from our walls and as diverse as some Gee's Bend quilts too.
Stroll by if you have the time, click through the photo.

Roger Borg

a stacked lamp by Roger Borg

2.18.6a, enamel on aluminum,
I received a delight for the eyes in my inbox this morning from artist Roger Borg. I don't know how he knew about my passion for neon and tube bending, but there it was. Beautiful sculptures and lamps and then, what is this? Yes -- he paints too! Here are a few of my favorite pieces from his site, but I urge you to click through here to view much more of his work and writings. What a wonderful way to start off my Friday - Thank you Roger!

How did I get interested in neon? In the 80's while visiting Los Angeles I found MONA, and was hooked.

A tree grows in Brooklyn

dean street tree, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

and here as well in New Hampshire. March is such a blah blah month that I try not to let it get me down. Days like today help beat the winter blahs though... yes a super sunny day today - I have been wandering around doing lots of nothing, but hey, that is when inspiration strikes, non?
Shot this last week on the sunniest day in the city. It's the same day today, so maybe I will go find a tree to look up at.
What is inspiring you lately?

deluxa

Over at the lovely Bloesoem blog Irene posted about deluxa in Brooklyn. Sadly, we missed this cool looking spot on our trip last week, but next time! Seems there are beautiful wonders to be explored inside this facinating shop. Ah well, something else to see next time 'round!

subway art

subway art, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

While in NYC, it is no surprise to find beauty all around. Public art is part of the beauty which adorns the subway and it's always refreshing to see a city's commitment to supporting the visual arts. I snapped a quicky photo of this ceramic relief piece under glasswhich was one of around a dozen in the hallway.
Well, our n'easter is seemingly over and the shoveling too, so it's back to the studio today. Hooray!

Sparkle, shine and snow

sparkle, originally uploaded by artstreamstudios.

Back from NYC just in time to miss the snow for traveling. Shoveling was fun today as it was all powder and puff. We took quite a few shots of the walking tour we did, so if you are interested, just click through the photo and you can view our set at flickr. More going up later, but for now - I have to load a kiln!
